The fifth edition of the Mukogodo Forest Walk Wild, held on 3 October 2026 was a resounding success with the Community Forest Association CFA, managing to raise the targeted Ksh 6 million, towards the purchase of a Landcruiser, a vital tool in the operations of the forest. This was made possible through the generous contribution of partners key among them The Nature Conservancy TNC.

Held under the theme “Walking for Wildlife Corridors, Community Resilience and Forest Conservation,” the annual event brought together conservation organizations, government agencies, security teams, community institutions, local leaders and other partners to support the protection of one of Kenya’s important dryland forest ecosystems.

Participants take part in the 2026 Mukogodo Forest Walk Wild Event.

Mukogodo Forest plays a critical role in connecting the landscapes of Laikipia, Isiolo and Samburu, providing a corridor for wildlife, including elephants and other large mammals. It also serves as an important livestock dispersal area for pastoral communities during drought. However, the forest faces continuing pressures, including habitat degradation, illegal logging, charcoal burning, drought and growing demand for natural resources.

The event also provided a platform to strengthen conservation partnerships and promote awareness of the forest’s importance. We took part in the event alongside participants and partners included among them Northern Rangelands Trust, Lewa, Lolldaiga, Loisaba, Olenaishu, Mpala, Naserian conservancies, Mount Kenya Trust, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lion Landscapes, Wyss Academy, Conservation International, CIAT, Naibunga Upper, Shulmai, Maiyanat, Lekurruki, IL Ngwesi, Borana, Lengishu, Lewa Wilderness, Ngarendare Water Resource Users Association, Ngarendare Forest Trust and other conservation partners. Government and public institutions represented included the Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Defence Forces National Police Service, National Government Administration Officers, the Office of the Member of Parliament and the Kenya Red Cross. Lokusero Secondary School and MIKIA also took part.

We congratulate the management of the forest for this achievement and look forward to the 2017 Walk!
