We facilitated and participated in a high-level consultative security meeting convened by the cabinet secretary for Interior Kipchumba Murkomen, bringing together conservancies from Laikipia, Marsabit, Isiolo, Samburu, Baringo and Meru Counties to deliberate on ways to strengthen coordinated responses to insecurity across northern Kenya.
The meeting discussed areas of collaboration with conservancies for lasting security, a key success factor for conservation and thriving communities. Conservancies in these landscapes have invested in security through mobility, maintaining access roads, training of security personnel and equipment such as drones for surveillance
The CS confirmed that the ongoing security operation in Mukogodo Forest will continue and announced plans to streamline the management of the forest through the Kenya Forest Service and the ILMAMUSI community.
The meeting also discussed equipping and deployment of National Police Reservists in underserved areas in the region and strengthening collaboration between county security teams and private conservancies to enhance surveillance and intelligence sharing.
The government will also prioritize opening and maintenance of security roads in the sub-county, to improve response and patrol coverage.
