LAMP Module 4 Concludes the “Managers to CEOs” Journey Across Conservancies.

The Leadership and Management Program (LAMP) Module 4 training, facilitated by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in partnership with Forward Consulting and the Laikipia Conservancies Association, successfully concluded at Kisimani Hotel, Isiolo, marking the final step in a transformative leadership journey for conservancy managers across northern Kenya.

The three-day training brought together 30 participants from Laikipia, Isiolo, Samburu, and Garissa counties, including representatives from conservancies, private conservancies such as Loisaba, Lolldaiga, and Borana, as well as partners including NRT, SCA, CHAT, TNC, and LCA.
This final module completed the “Managers to CEOs” leadership journey, strengthening the capacity of conservancy managers to lead strategically, collaborate effectively, and drive long-term conservation impact.
Strengthening Leadership Through Relationships and
Trust
A central focus of Module 4 was deepening interpersonal leadership through trust-building and self-awareness. Participants engaged in reflective exercises where they shared personal life journeys, challenges, and experiences.
This process created a strong sense of connection and mutual respect among participants, strengthening empathy and reinforcing the human dimension of leadership in conservation landscapes. Many participants noted that understanding each other’s backgrounds enhanced their ability to lead with compassion and collaboration.
Building Stronger Teams for Real-World Conservation Challenges
The module also emphasized teamwork and collaborative problem-solving through practical outdoor team-building exercises. Participants worked in groups to solve complex challenges under time pressure, simulating real-life conservancy management scenarios.
These exercises reinforced the importance of communication, coordination, and shared accountability. Participants recognized that effective conservation leadership depends not on individual effort, but on strong, united teams working toward common goals.
From Activities to Impact: Strengthening Proposal Writing Skills
A key technical component of the training focused on advanced proposal writing and understanding donor expectations. Participants were introduced to the “drill and hole” concept, emphasizing that donors prioritize impact over activities.
The session strengthened participants’ ability to design clear, results-oriented proposals by focusing on problem definition, outcomes, and measurable impact. Practical exercises helped refine their ability to articulate conservation challenges and align solutions with donor priorities.
Graduation and a New Phase of Leadership
The completion of Module 4 marked the successful graduation of all participants from the LAMP program. This milestone represents not just the end of training, but the beginning of a new phase of leadership transformation across conservancies.
Participants expressed strong appreciation to TNC, LCA, and training facilitators for their support throughout the program. The journey was widely described as transformative, shifting participants from operational managers to strategic conservation leaders.
A New Generation of Conservancy Leaders
The LAMP program has strengthened leadership capacity, collaboration, and impact-driven thinking across rangeland landscapes. Graduates now return to their conservancies equipped with practical skills, stronger networks, and a shared vision for sustainable conservation leadership.
