Strengthening Governance: SAGE Trainings in Lekuruki & Naibunga Lower Conservancies

LCA, in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association (KWCA), is using the Site-level Assessment of Governance and Equity (SAGE) tool to improve equity, accountability, and inclusivity in community conservancies.

Naibunga Lower Conservancy

  • Held an introductory meeting with Conservancy Community Youth (CCY) board members to introduce the SAGE tool.

  • Assistant facilitators trained to support future SAGE sessions.

  • Conducted an action prioritization session, where participants identified key governance challenges and agreed on solutions.

SAGE training in Naibunga Lower Conservancy

Lekuruki Conservancy

  • Started with an introductory session for CCY board members.

  • Community leaders and members sensitized on the SAGE approach.

  • Facilitated action prioritization, highlighting pressing governance issues and next steps.

  • With KWCA support, Lekuruki is developing a Conflict Resolution Policy to promote peaceful coexistence.

The need for SAGE trainings

  • Builds inclusive and transparent governance within conservancies.

  • Empowers youth, community leaders, and members to actively participate in decision-making.

  • Ensures fair benefit sharing while safeguarding conservation goals.

  • Translates governance principles into practical community-led actions.
