Empowering Dryland Communities: Learning Visit on Water for Production

In partnership with the Wyss Academy for Nature, LCA recently led a team of community conservancy managers on an eye-opening learning visit to Christian Impact Mission in Yatta. The visit aimed to build practical knowledge on Water for Production a critical need for dryland communities in Laikipia seeking to enhance water access for farming, conservation, and daily use.

Learning from Experience: Ecosystem Restoration in Action

The team was hosted by Dr. Bishop Titus Masika, Founder and Director of Christian Impact Mission, who shared transformative insights on ecosystem restoration. Key lessons included the use of sand dams, water pans, and livestock commercialization to strengthen community resilience.

A standout concept introduced was the “One Acre Rule” a model for land reclamation and sustainable, water-based farming. It emphasized that crops thrive on water, not just rainfall, encouraging smart planning in semi-arid environments.

Shifting Mindsets, Building Resilience

This learning exchange was not only informative but also deeply inspiring. It demonstrated how practical innovation, mindset change, and community ownership can enable dryland conservancies to become resilient, food-secure, and self-reliant.

LCA remains committed to exploring solutions that support ecosystem restoration and strengthen the adaptive capacity of conservancies across the Laikipia landscape.
