Leadership and Management Program (LAMP) Training: Strengthening Governance and Leadership Across Conservancies

Updated: Nov 7, 2025

As part of ongoing efforts to enhance leadership capacity and governance effectiveness across Northern Kenya’s conservancies, LCA in partnership with Forward Consulting and The Nature Conservancy (TNC), is implementing the Leadership and Management Program (LAMP).

The program brings together senior conservancy managers from Laikipia, Isiolo, and Samburu, under the facilitation of Allan Ward, a leadership and organizational development expert from Forward Consulting. The first module, held from 13th–15th October 2025 at Kisimani Resort, Isiolo, focused on developing adaptive leadership and effective management practices for the conservation sector.

Key focus areas included:

  • Leadership vs. Management: Exploring the distinction between leading people and managing systems.

  • Strategic Thinking and CEO Mindset: Encouraging accountability, vision-setting, and results-driven leadership.

  • Personality Profiling: Using colour personality models to improve communication and teamwork.

  • Problem-Solving with CPISA: Applying the Challenge, Problem, Ideas, Solution, Action framework to address real management challenges.

The conservancy managers appreciated the program’s practical design, interactive discussions, and emphasis on peer learning. The sessions also reinforced the importance of good governance, collaboration, and transparent leadership as drivers of conservancy success.

The second module, currently underway (11th–14th November 2025), builds on these lessons by focusing on institutional management, operational planning, and performance improvement using the W1–W2–W3 framework (What’s working, What’s not working, What should be improved).

Through LAMP, LCA and its partners are cultivating a new generation of visionary, accountable, and collaborative leaders dedicated to advancing sustainable conservation and community development across Northern Kenya.
