Capacity building training for Nkoteiya and Ltungai conservancies rangeland committees.

In February, we convened a training session for Nkoteiya and Ltungai conservancies rangeland committees in collaboration with Loisaba Conservancy, and in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and the Wyss Foundation. We trained 27 men and 3 women, a team drawn from the conservancy boards, grazing, rangeland committee, conservancy managers, and rangeland coordinators.

The training aimed at strengthening the capacity of community rangeland committees to restore and manage degraded rangelands for the benefit of people, livestock, and wildlife. Using a participatory approach, the training emphasized role clarification, effective governance systems, and improved coordination among conservancy institutions.

Participants also took part in a problem–solution analysis exercise, which helped the teams identify weak governance, poor communication, and limited awareness as factors affecting sustainable restoration. Part of the solutions identified included enforceable grazing plans, regular monitoring, improved communication, and community sensitization.
