The Laikipia Conservancies Association (LCA) convened a cluster-wide Peace and Security Coordination Meeting at Doldol on 26th January 2026. This meeting brought together conservancy managers, heads of security, community wardens, and county security officials, including the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), OCPD, and GSU command.

The meeting focused on enhancing coordination, intelligence sharing, and joint response mechanisms across Western and Eastern Cluster conservancies in response to a rise in security incidents reported during January. The discussions emphasized strengthening LCA’s Peace and Security program, one of the association’s key programs, and prioritized the following actions:
Establishing a centralized command structure for conservancy security teams and National Police Reservists.
Pooling resources such as fuel, vehicles, and communication equipment for coordinated patrols.
Shifting from reactive responses to preventive security approaches using intelligence, mapping, and proactive patrols.
Formation of a Mobile Rapid Response Team with trained rangers from each conservancy.
Enhancing aerial and night surveillance to monitor hotspots and support operations.
Strengthening prosecution and accountability for identified bandits.
The meeting underscored the importance of community cooperation, timely intelligence, and ranger welfare in improving operational effectiveness and safeguarding both people and livestock.
Other Security Highlights – January 2026
During the month, conservancies responded to a number of security and human–wildlife conflict incidents across the landscape. Coordinated efforts between conservancy rangers, community leaders, and government security agencies supported response and recovery measures where necessary.
These developments reaffirm the importance of LCA’s Peace and Security Program in safeguarding communities, protecting livelihoods, and supporting conservation efforts across our member conservancies.
LCA remains committed to fostering collaborative, proactive, and community-centered security solutions that promote long-term peace and resilience within conservancies.
