We joined Maiyanat community conservancy during a partners meeting to strengthen coordination and align partner interventions with conservancy priorities.
This important meeting was necessary in order to eliminate cases of uncoordinated interventions and the need for the development of a conservancy work plan to guide partnerships, reduce duplication, and ensure all activities respond to conservancy-defined priorities.
Convened by the Board, also known as the Community Land Management Committee CLMC, the meeting followed the unfortunate destruction of the Maiyanat demonstration plot, a rehabilitated 250 acre plot, showcasing successful rehabilitation techniques, particularly in reversing land degradation.
The meeting also served as an opportunity for the conservancy leadership to share the progress of past, ongoing, and planned projects key among them our ongoing partnership to remove the invasive Opuntia species, extension of the Osirua water reticulation system to support the Maiyanat TVET in partnership with IMPACT Kenya.
The conservancy also has an ongoing partnership with the neighboring Loldaiga Conservancy and the Laikipia Wildlife Forum, to remove the invasive opuntia species, while other ongoing projects are the Northern Rangeland’s nature-based solutions restoration program, and Laikipia Permaculture Center’s sand dam development.
Partners committed to partner with the community to restore the demonstration plot, while re-engaging the community and rebuilding trust.
